Hello! I'm Yajushi!
Here are various facets of my life that define me.
STEM: Mathematics and Science have been my favorite subjects all along. My STEM interests got boost when I was selected through a rigorous selection process to join US #1 ranked TJ high school that is dedicated to STEM. I am focusing on Computer Science major that encompasses DNA, AI, and Robotics.
STEM PROJECTS: I can talk for hours about my special research-based project where I am developing AI-based software to predict apnea in pre-term babies. There are other interesting projects that I have worked in the past
CULTURE:
-
Kathak: The Indian classical dance is my main stress buster. I have Bachelor’s equivalent diploma in Kathak. I regularly perform at local cultural events. It’s most rewarding to perform self-choreographed dance piece.
-
Singing: I have received formal training in Indian Classical Music and enjoy singing a variety of music.
HOBBIES: Well, friends are inseparable part of everybody’s life. It is even more fun when I can spend time with them at ice SKATING rink or in a SWIMMING pool.
STEM Projects
Approximately 180,000 babies experience “apnea of prematurity" each year; my younger sister being one of those. She survived, but not without ongoing health complications. I am developing a computer program to predict onslaught of apnea. The project is still in infancy, but it gets me excited every time I discuss it.
I have written an (unpublished) paper based on my apnea research. Medical field is heavily focused on “treating” apnea, not “predicting” it. I believe a computer program can track health vitals and brain signals to predict apnea. AI principles could be utilized to improve predictability with analyzing more data.
Data availability is the biggest challenge. No organized data collection for this purpose has ever been undertaken. Moreover, any available data is heavily guarded by PHI/PII laws. I am developing program logic using some “pseudo data".
I started working on this project on my own. Later, I made more progress under mentorship of MIT students at 2023 Hackathon. Lumiere program has selected my work for further research during Summer 2023, and has paired me with a Rashi Bhatt, who is pursuing PhD in Computational Neuroscience at the University of Chicago
Kathak
Kathak is an Indian Classical Dance forms that originated around 200BC and has evolved over centuries. Mainly native to Northern India, Kathak dancers tell various stories through their elaborate facial expressions, extensive hand movements, rhythmic footwork, and flexible body movements. The stories are often related to Devotion to God, Playful flirting of lovers, etc.
At age of six, I started learning Kathak under the guidance of my Guru Mrs. Tanu Shrivastav. Along the way, I completed the six-year curriculum to obtain the Nritya Prabhaker in First Class. Prabhakar is equivalent to BA degree.
Kathak has given me an avenue to relax in an otherwise hectic life. It has connected me to my roots. It was also a family bonding experience for me: My mother and I learned Kathak together for four years. For the last two years, my younger sister and I are learning Kathak together.
Here is a list of my Kathak performances:
-
2023-06: Annual Day Function, India International School (Solo)
-
2023-06: Annual Day Function, India International School (Group)
-
2021-12: Solo Self Choreographed, India International School

Music
I started learning singing in the Indian Classical Music style at age six under the guidance of my guru Mr. Vishwas Shirgaonkar. I took formal lessons for four years before focusing my attention on Kathak. During my learning years, I also passed two exams of the six-year long Visharad Diploma, which is equivalent to a BA degree.
Hindustani Sangeet (i.e., Indian Classical Music) amazes me by the intricate mathematical patterns involved. For example, if you are singing to a 8-beat rhythm and want to repeat a 3-beat peace three times with a 1-beat gap between repetition, which beat would you start on? (Answer: 6th beat.) Now what if you want to sing the piece in twice the speed with 1-beat gap between repetitions? (Answer: 0.5th beat)
Here is a list of my Classical Singing performances:
1.2013: Evening Ragas, India International School
